Measuring for a Gymnastics Leotard

WHAT YOU NEED:

Get a flexible measuring tape. These are often sold in craft stores. Or you can purchase one on Amazon click here.

TIP: If you don’t have one handy, use a piece of string to take the measurement. Place a knot at the measured point then lay the string on a ruler or measuring tape.

HOW TO MEASURE:

All measurements are a full circle from start point, around the body, and back to starting point (the circumference).

  1.  GIRTH or TORSO: Take this one from the centre of a shoulder, down the front, through the crotch, and up the back to the starting point.
  2. BUST or CHEST: Take this measurement while taking a deep breath, wrap the tape measure under armpits around fullest part of chest (usually right above nipples).
  3. WAIST: Take this measurement at the natural waistline – the smallest part of the waist.
  4. HIPS: Take this measurement around the fullest part of the buttocks.

WHAT TO DO WITH THE MEASUREMENTS:

You have successfully measured your child…now what? Every gymnast body is unique and not all of them will fall into every category of a size chart perfectly. Find the size that closest represents the measurements.

Note: The torso measurement is the most important followed by the chest and hip measurements; the least important is the waist.
